Paediatric optometry is a branch of optometry that focuses on methods for evaluating and executing tests to determine eye problems and pathological visual defects in children.

Your child should have an eye checkup regularly, but if the child complains of headaches, blurred vision, red eyes or sore eyes, it’s time to take him / her to an optometrist. To put it simply, any time your child feels there is something affecting their vision should require a visit to an optometrist. This is especially true if the child complains of continuous headaches or headaches brought about by activities. Finding an optometrist doesn’t have to be difficult especially if you know what you’re looking for.

The first thing you should check is board certification. A board certified optometrist is someone who has completed an oral and written examination confirming their expertise in the field as required by the state where they practice.

One of the requirements for getting your driver’s license, learner’s license, driver’s license renewal or professional driving permit (PDP) is a traffic certificate. To get your traffic certificate you undergo a screening test where we check if your allowed to drive with your normal vision or if you need spectacle correction. During this screening test we will check your visual acuity and visual field to name a few of the checks.

What is visual acuity? Visual acuity is the clarity of your vision and its sharpness, it is normally expressed in fraction form like 20/20 or 20/40. 20/20 vision means you can see objects 20 feet (approximately 6.09 meters) away from you. The required visual acuity to legally pass a vision test is 20/40. Each eye is tested separately where you need 20/40 and at least 20/70 in the other eye. Visual field is also equally important, a visual field test measures how far one can see in any direction without moving and sensitivity of the vision to different parts of the visual field. The minimum requirements for visual field 70 degrees and where one is blind a minimum of visual 115 degrees is required. Both tests can be conducted with or without eye correction such spectacles or contact lenses.

Having a test with us will help you know whether you need correction to your eyesight or not. So, you know if you meet the requirements needed for you not to be a danger to other users of the road especially those whose source of employment requires them to be on the road for extended periods of time.
